About The Institution
LBS Institute of Technology for Women, established in the year 2001 is the first Engineering College for Women in the state of Kerala. LBSITW is managed by LBS Centre for Science and Technology, a premier Research and Consultancy organization under the Government of Kerala. During the Twenty One years of existence, it has achieved excellence in imparting technical education for women. At present, the College offers five undergraduate programs (B.Tech) in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Applied Electronics and Instrumentation, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology and Civil Engineering and two post graduate programs (M.Tech) in Signal Processing and Computer Science and Engineering.
B.Tech Programme in Civil Engineering was introduced in the Institution in 2012. Since inception, the Department of Civil Engineering is actively engaged in grooming a large pool of students into well trained engineers. The Department keeps pace with the advances in technology by engaging in research and consultancy works in the various emerging areas of Civil Engineering
About the Conference
This is the Sixth National Conference organized by the Department of Civil Engineering of LBS Institute of Technology for Women. This conference is being organized with the technical support of Indian Geotechnical Society-Thiruvananthapuram Chapter, Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) and the Technical Committee TC 212 of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). The aim of the conference is to provide a platform for Academicians, Research scholars, Practicing Engineers and Students, working in the area of Geotechnical Engineering and Deep Foundations to interact and share their experience and knowledge. This conference provides an opportunity for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences face to face, to establish business or research relations and to find partners for future collaboration.

Memorial Lecture
Prof. T.S. Ramanatha Ayyer was born on 8th October 1932 in Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu. He obtained B.Sc. (Engg) in Civil Engineering from College of Engineering Trivandrum in 1953, M.Sc. (Engg) in Soil Mechanics from University of Madras and Ph. D. from University of Roorkee. He was the first PhD conferment in Geotechnical Engineering in the country. He started his career as demonstrator and rose to the position of Professor in Civil Engineering in 1965. He was the Post-Doctoral fellow during 1971-72 at Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, Oslo, Professor at the University of Zambia during 1977-79 and Visiting Professor, Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria during 1983-84.He has served as Principal of both the Government Engineering colleges at Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram and was the Director of Technical Education during the period 1986-87. Later he served as Visiting professor at I.I.T., Madras and U.G.C. Emeritus Fellow. Apart from being member of many academic bodies at the University and National level, Prof. Ayyer has published 3 books on soil and about 70 papers in leading journals.
About the Speaker
Prof. B.K. Maheshwari, President, ISET is presently Professor in the Department of Earthquake Engineering, IIT Roorkee. Prof. Maheshwari received his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Jodhpur, Master's Degree in Earthquake Engineering from the University of Roorkee and Ph.D. from the Saitama University Japan. After PhD, he worked in Tokyo, Japan, and then as a post-doctoral fellow at the Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. Since Dec. 2004. Prof. Maheshwari has about 30 years of research experience, and working in all areas of Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering particularly Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction, Liquefaction, Dynamic Soil Properties, Constitutive Modeling, Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis, Slope Stability, Landslides and Disaster Mitigation & Management. He has published about 170 research articles including 55 papers in journals of international repute

The Founder Director of ACT Group of Companies. He has over 40 years of experience in varied fields of Civil Engineering such as Pile Foundations, Heavy Earthmoving Equipment, Demolition and Concrete Flooring. Mr. Mohan Ramanathan is a B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT, Madras and Masters from UIUC, USA. He is also an active member in several professional societies like DFII, IGS, Inst of Engineers, ACCE, ICI and IDA. He is constantly involved in the transfer of technologies in the field of construction mechanisation into India from developed countries. Presently, his firm Advanced Construction Technologies (ACT). He was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by ICI Chennai Chapter for 2021.
Currently Director of Explore Engineering Consultants Pvt. Ltd. Noida. He is a geotechnical professional serving the field of Geotechnical Engineering for the last 24 years as a Geotechnical Consultant. In this span of time, Dr. Singh has been involved in providing consultancy services to more than 4000 projects. He completed his B. Tech (Civil) from NIT Calicut, ME (Geotechnical Engineering) from IIT Roorkee with University medal and PhD from IIT Delhi. He is also Honorary Secretary of IGS national, Member Board of Studies (BOS) of Civil Engineering Dept. of GLA University, Mathura, member managing committee of World Education Mission (WEM) Noida, nominated member of technical committee of International Society of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (ISSMGE) for Deep Foundations (TC212)
Received his Ph.D from IIT Delhi in 1996, Post-Graduation in Geotechnical Engineering from Kerala University in 1985 after graduating in Civil Engineering from Kerala University in 1982. Dr. Balan K. has specialized in sub soil investigation and design and execution of foundations and soil improvement methods. Designed and executed many projects using geotextiles with natural fibres. Currently he is Vice Principal of Rajadhani Institute of Science & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram
Currently Professor in Civil Engineering, College of Engineering Trivandrum. He has obtained his M.Tech from NITK Surathkal in 1992 and Ph.D from IIT Madras in the year 1998. He joined the Department of Technical Education in the year 2000 and is working there ever since. He is specialised in Geotechnical Engineering and is keenly interested in Geotechnical Analyses and Designs, Investigations, Finite Element Analysis, Geosynthetic applications, Ground Improvement and Forensic Geotechnical Engineering. He is a recognised research guide and a consultant to several Government Departments and industries.
Professor in Civil Engineering at College of Engineering Trivandrum. She did her BTech in Civil Engineering and MTech in Geotechnical Engineering at College of Engineering Trivandrum. She did her PhD and PDF at IIT Madras. Her research interests include Soil dynamics, Earthquake geotechnical engineering, Ground improvement, Pavement design, Geo-environmental engineering etc. She was awarded Shree Gayathree Devi Award for the Ph. D student with highest GPA for the year 2009 from IIT Madras, Young Scientist Award by KSCSTE etc.
Principal Engineer of Geo Dynamics has been instrumental in popularizing the concept of Deep Foundation Testing in India. He has created a deep foundation testing industry and today Geo Dynamics is India’s premier testing company in this field. He has done his B.E. (Civil) in 1991 and M.E.(Structures) in 1994 from M.S. University of Baroda. He is the national EC member of IGS, DFI and on BIS sub-committee to form guidelines for pile foundation testing. He is also on the TC212 Committee of ISSMGE and technical representative of Pile Dynamics, USA. He has popularized methods like High Strain Dynamic Testing, PIT, Sonic Logging etc. for pile foundations in India. He has worked on all almost all the prestigious projects in the country and in more than 20 countries worldwide. He has written various technical papers on the subject and has also been a recipient of best paper award in Case Histories category.
A first-generation entrepreneur and CEO of M/s Engosym Consultants’. She graduated in Civil Engineering from Mumbai University in the year 2001 and did her Master’s in Business Administration in the year 2015. She has more than 22 years of experience and had the opportunity to be a part of suggesting solutions to critical slope stability issues encountered in various prestigious projects like Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Konkan Railway, Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway, Pakyong Airport at Sikkim, Versova-Bandra Sea Link, and many more. She has a number of National and International papers published to her credit. She is an active contributor to the IGS Pune Chapter in the capacity of Joint Secretary.
Obtained his PhD from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, India in 2014 after completing MTech in Geotechnical Engineering, from the same Institute in 1996. He is presently working as Principal at LBS Institute of Technology for Women, Thiruvananthapuram. His research activities are in the field of Foundation Engineering, Geosynthetics and reinforced soil structures etc. He is actively involved in research and consultancy in Geotechnical Engineering. He is a member of the International Technical Committee TC 107 for Tropical Residual Soils of ISSMGE
Completed his B-Tech Honours in Civil Engineering from University of Calicut in 1990. He did M-Tech in Structural Engineering from University of Kerala and PhD from APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. He has 30 years of experience including 22 years in teaching and 8 years in construction industry. His research interest is in Light Weight Concrete. Currently he is working as Associate Professor and Head, Department of Civil Engineering, LBS Institute of Technology for Women, Thiruvananthapuram.
